After returning from a three month long vacation, I was having a hard time getting back to the city life. It felt overwhelming and I just wanted to relive the calmness and peace I experienced in the mountains. The best way to relive a place or a feeling is to paint it. This painting is just that. “Transcendence” is a calming and a peaceful piece inspired by nature and self-exploration.
If you look at my previous Buddha paintings, you will notice that almost all of them have been dark signifying toughness or tenacity. They have a unique kind of calmness in them. In all honesty, I'm impressed with how "Transcendence" came out. It has a completely different feel to it. My paintings have been a reflection of my own mental health and this painting shows that I am at peace with myself. Travelling solo has allowed me to introspect and take a journey of self-exploration. This painting is a symbol of self-acceptance and unconditional positive regard.
About the technique:
The colour scheme is inspired by nature and I imagined a field of sunflowers with a peach sky. I have used tints of cadmium yellow, scarlet red, burnt sienna and black straight from the tube. For a translucent effect, I diluted the colours using a glazing medium. I used a sponge to do shading which gives a stipling effect without much effort. I loved using a honeycomb stencil along with abstract painting techniques. For the surface, I chose a linen canvas which is sturdier and smoother than a traditional cotton canvas.
Happy Creating.
